Artist Interview With Sara Twomey
Today’s Artist Interview Is With Sara Twomey From South East London, in New-Cross, England.
Whopple: How long have you been an artist?
Sara: I started to teach myself to paint about 15 years ago.
Whopple: Tell us about your first attempts to be creative?
Sara: When I was young I used to draw match boxes over and over again, especially ‘Ship matches’
Whopple: Do you make a living with your art?
Sara: No, its not possible to make a living completely from my painting, but I have sold work randomly.
Whopple: How many hours a day do you create?
Sara: It can vary from 1 hour to 12 hrs a day!
Whopple: How did you pick your creative medium?
Sara: I use oil paint because it feels very natural and right.
Whopple: What are your inspirations?
Sara: Places that are not famous inspire me, council housing estates, empty wastelands, ruins, distopia and the square.
Whopple: How do you recharge when your creativity hits the wall?
Sara: I turn to alcohol.
Whopple: What was your first job?
Sara: My first job was in Burger King.
Whopple: What gives you hope in the world?
Sara: Kind hearted people who help others.
Whopple: What do you wish you could do?
Sara: To be a better painter!
Whopple: What are your artistic goals?
Sara: To be a successful artist, exhibit work and be able to support myself financially.
Whopple: What has been your most exciting moment as an artist?
Sara: I used to work for the artist Damien Hirst- that was quite exciting! Right now my own paintings are appearing in a play by Mike Elliston to represent the work of the Irish artist Paulkric Fermoy at the Edinbourgh Fringe festival.
