Artist Interview With Massimo Cremagnani
Today’s Artist Interview Is With Massimo Cremagnani From Milano, Italy.
Whopple: How long have you been an artist?
Massimo: Since I’ve been born, I think. But as a primary way of life it is quite 20 years.
Whopple: Tell us about your first attempts to be creative.
Massimo: In the early days I was influenced by surrealism. In that period (for 10 years +/-) I used most of the traditional techniques: oil, mixed, sculpture, etching, silkscreen… Then, in the middle of 90′s, I began a research in digital ways, before just in imagery and then in more deep techniques of printing with special medias.
Whopple: Do you make a living with your art?
Massimo: If you mean do I sell enough art to live, the answer is no. I have worked as a journalist, graphic designer, digital printing consultant and more. Actually I’m working on a personal project to build the first digital printing museum in the world.
Whopple: How many hours a day do you create?
Massimo: Creation takes half of my time. The rest is study, staying informed and the search for inspiration.
Whopple: How did you pick your creative medium?
Massimo: In the 90′s I thought that computer solutions could be powerful and useful to express
artistic ideas with charisma and precision, and overall a new and unique technique. So I began t0 research and understand if this could be true, applying and enhancing every other technique
experience in the new media.
Whopple: What are your inspirations?
Massimo: There are the (female) bodies and the visual expressions, the culture icons and the language jokes. And then there is always the challenge to do something new, just to obtain a new visual effect.
Whopple: How do you recharge when your creativity hits the wall?
Massimo: Searching for stimulus, thinking of nothing, eating, letting it pass.
Whopple: What was your first job?
Massimo: As real job I’ve been journalist skilled in digital arts and graphics.
Whopple: What gives you hope in the world?
Massimo: Friends, culture and rock’n'roll.
Whopple: What do you wish you could do?
Massimo: I’m trying to establish a correct identity of digital art, more deep and coherent than the superficial descriptions and samples you can find around. I’d like to elevate art culture over mass culture.
Whopple: What are your artistic goals?
Massimo: Travel around the world doing expositions. See my research more acknowledged.
Whopple: What has been your most exciting moment as an artist?
Massimo: Every time a visitor expresses spontaneous emotions from my artwork.
