Artist Interview With Julia Van Der Werf

Today’s Artist Interview Is with Julia Van Der Werf From Holland.
Whopple: How long have you been an artist?
Julia: As long as I can remember I’ve created my own cards and paperdolls but when I discovered Paint Shop Pro six years ago, the graphic programs facinated me .
It took me years to discover all the possibilities within the graphic
programs.
Whopple: Tell us about your first attempts to be creative.
Julia: I did some digital seed packets, cards, gift tags for printing on a free
yahoo account and believe it or not they’re still there but I can’t find them anymore. I forgot the login and passwords etc:)
Whopple: Do you make a living with your art?
Julia: In April I quit my part-time job in a womens-wear shop because on Etsy, where I sell my products, I earn the same and most of the time even more. Together with my husbands salary we’re doing fine !
Whopple: How many hours a day do you create?
Julia: Most days I work 3 – 6 hours .
Whopple: Why did you pick your particular creative medium?
Julia: When you’re working digitally you don’t need crafting stuff like paper and glue, etc. No mess and the possibilities are endless. In a few seconds you can create beautiful stamps or give a picture a complete different look!
Whopple: What are your inspirations?
Julia: Many things! Pictures in magazines, old masters, old books and I love colors.
Whopple: How do you recharge when your creativity hits the wall?
Julia: Nothing special. I let it go and then suddenly , I see something in a
magazine and wham , its there again:)
Whopple: What was your first job?
Julia: Working in a shoe shop. Later I had my own womens-wear shop for thirteen years. I had to stop with the shop because of the recession. My first job as artist was designing scrapbook papers for a Dutch craft company.
Whopple: What are your favorite snacks when you are creating?
Julia: Cookies and chocolate
Whopple: What gives you hope in the world?
Julia: Obama
Whopple: What do you wish you could do?
Julia: Make beautiful lampwork beads.
Whopple: What are your artistic goals?
Julia: My designs on sheets , towels , fabric, school supplies etc.
Always Dreaming
Whopple: What has been your most exciting moment as an artist?
Julia: The first time I was published in a Stampington magazine. That was also very exciting for my family:)
