Artist Interview With Igor Lukyanov

Today’s Artist Interview Is With Igor Lukyanov from Kramatorst, Ukraine
Whopple: How long have you been an artist?
Igor: I’ve being drawing for all my life, although only 5 years as a professional artist.
Whopple: Tell us about your first attempts to be creative.
Igor: It’s really hard to remember the first attempts as drawing was always like breathing for me – a natural state of mind. I remember how I used to be surprised when people told me they could not draw. I am a self-taught artist and I’ve being learning to create art for all my life.
Whopple: Do you make a living with your art?
Igor: Yes. I have been earning from my art for a few years.
Whopple: How many hours a day do you create?
Igor: From 0 to 8 hour depending on necessity and inspiration.
Whopple: How did you pick your creative medium?
Igor: I had tried quite a lot of drawing tools, techniques and media and understood that the most convenient tools and media for me are those used by graphic artists – pencil, pen & ink and plain paper.
Whopple: What are your inspirations?
Igor: First of all, it is beauty of the world around me. Secondly, works of other artists. Thirdly, other artists’ critique of my art works regardless whether it is positive or negative.
Whopple: How do you recharge when your creativity hits the wall?
Igor: Just have a little rest trying not to think about my being an artist and having to draw constantly. I play music, do some physical work and do not let myself draw for some time as it is useless when you are having a creativity crisis. So, I just wait till God blesses me with creativity and inspiration.
Whopple: What was your first job?
Igor: I have been engaged in researches in the field of engineering and my first job was an instructor in an engineering institute. I am engineer by education but I have chosen art to be my profession.
Whopple: What gives you hope in the world?
Igor: My children.
Whopple: What do you wish you could do?
Igor: My biggest wish is to be a good father for my children, to earn their trust, confidence and respect, to teach them what I know.
Whopple: What are your artistic goals?
Igor: Sometimes it seems that I am an outside observer of my creative development and gaining experience as an artist and I am very excited about what will eventually come out of this. I want to spare no efforts in further mastering portrait art as I believe that drawing/painting of human portraits is the top of artist’s skills. I will continue looking for the answer to what beauty is, and tell it to people in the language of art.
Whopple: What has been your most exciting moment as an artist?
Igor: Creative activity is full of exciting moments, that’s why I never stop drawing. I have recently noticed that professional artists (those having art education, unlike me) have the same drawbacks in their works as I can find myself. And this is exiting as I feel that I am getting more mature as an artist and I can develop and improve my skills on my own. I used to feel this was wrong.

Thanks for featuring my art! I appreciate it!
When I was a child I also did drawing from copying the figures from my textbooks. But at times goes by I think I am loosing my touch. I wanted to know from the expert, when doing art is it an inborn talent or if you have the passion, can you learn it?
I found your drawing just amazingly great, nice portraits and techniques. I liked your interview as much as your art, the first portrait is just nice, I love it, what can I say.
I also used to get surprised at people telling me they couldn't draw, but it is a skill that takes time and probably will never be perfect.
Nice work.
Thanks, Henry!
I am really glad to know that you love my works.
