Artist Interview With Greta Olivas

Today’s Artist Interview Is With Greta Olivas From Austin, Texas
Whopple: How long have you been an artist?
Greta: 9 years
Whopple: Tell us about your first attempts to be creative.
Greta: From what I hear, I was “artistic” since I was old enough to hold a crayon. But I remember always drawing, ever since elementary school.
Whopple: Do you make a living with your art?
Greta: No, I wish I could, but not yet. I am learning web design right now and I hope to maybe use that as a creative outlet and hopefully make a living at it.

Whopple: How many hours a day do you create?
Greta: I would say maybe about 2 hours a day if I am lucky. That is usually working on the computer on photoshop. It’s hard for me to paint, now that we downsized to a small apartment, but trying to do more of it.
Whopple: How did you pick your creative medium?
Greta: Drawing came naturally to me, but I always wanted to paint. After trying different mediums I decided I liked acrylics best, but I do like mixed media. I like to add different things into my paintings for texture. Also I have always been around photography. My Father was always taking photos, and I guess I followed in his footsteps on that one.

Whopple: How do you recharge when your creativity hits the wall?
Greta: That is a tough one for me. I guess going to galleries and sitting at a book store with a pile of art magazines and books usually does a lot for me.
Whopple: What was your first job?
Greta: Ice Cream Shop.
Whopple: What are your favorite snacks when you are creating?
Greta: I would not call it a snack, but sometimes I do like to have some wine or a Margarita while I am painting!
Whopple: What gives you hope in the world?
Greta: Kindness. You don’t see it often enough, but if more people treated one another with kindness I think the world would be so much better. I do believe that one by one we can make a difference.

Whopple: What do you wish you could do?
Greta: I wish I could spend more time painting. Also I would love to be able to take more classes so I could learn more, both in painting and photography.
Whopple: What are your artistic goals?
Greta: To be able to make a living through my art.
Whopple: What has been your most exciting moment as an artist?
Greta: The time I sold my first painting. I could not believe that someone actually wanted to give me money for one of my pieces!
