Artist Interview With Durk

Today’s Artist Interview Is With Durk from Orlando, Florida.
Whopple: How long have you been an artist?
Durk: I remember I used to love to doodle in High School. In 2000, because I couldn’t get “livable wages down here” I dabbled in art and sold my first creation- attended Crealde School of art and continue to attend the Maitland Art School.
Whopple: Do you make a living with your art?
Durk: I try to. I have had many successful art shows in Orlando and Fort Lauderdale, FL. I am always looking for new venues to place my creations.
Whopple: How many hours a day do you create?
Durk: It’s a weekly event. I decide what hue to use & subject matter and then on Tuesday I create.
Whopple: How did you pick your creative medium?
Durk: I have tried watercolor and oils. I love creating with acrylics the best.
Whopple: What are your inspirations?
Durk: Thinking back on those nights dancing away in the Chicago, nightlife. I used to dance for hours, the music, the lights, and the love is a reflection and goal for my creations.
Whopple: How do you recharge when your creativity hits the wall?
Durk: I take a week to think of the hues I want to use , and subject matter I want to create.
Whopple: What was your first job?
Durk: Busboy
Whopple: What are your favorite snacks when you are creating?
Durk: Before an artist’s workshop I drink 2 Red Bulls to give me that energy i want to have a reflection of my goals on the blank canvas.
Whopple: What gives you hope in the world?
Durk: I have been HIV for over 20+ years and I have lost so many friends through-out those years. Building new friendships, discovering different life paths, living the BEST I can, is what gives me hope.
Whopple: What do you wish you could do?
Durk: That my artwork becomes available for the masses and I become nationally known as an artist in today’s troubled world. I am an advocate for GLBT rights and an advocate for reduced costs for HIV+ drugs ( They are SO expensive)
Whopple: What are your artistic goals?
Durk: To make the colors and forms of my canvas sing, with a reflection of the Great Artist like Peter Max and a mixture of the Great Artist Keith Haring (his primitive designs.) To create creations that are fully energetic and harmonious to form and to creating “Happy Art”
Whopple: What has been your most exciting moment as an artist?
Durk: My first sale back in 2000
Whopple: Anything Else?
Durk: My art is to be enjoyed, I donate it to worthwhile organizations( Example Visual Aids in SF for their upcoming auction in November) I have several art events throughout the year.

Great interview, i love the abstract painting shown, abstract being my favorite painting style.
I love the second painting! the horizontal lines seem to converge in the distance, gives it a sense of one point perspective – outstanding
